BP, Their own Words on Global Warming
“Our track for action on climate change stretches back to 1997 and we are widely known as the first oil company to publicly acknowledge the issue”.
“Well-chosen words of assurance in an uncertain marketplace may be soothing. But at BP we’d prefer to be judged by the quality of our actions”.
“At current consumption rates, we estimate that the world has a 40-year supply of oil and almost 70 years of natural gas. The future of fossil fuels will be defined as much by resourcefulness as by resources”.
“We support and contribute to the apparent consensus that it would be prudent to limit the increase in the world’s temperature to about 2° Celsius above pre-industrial levels”.
“One way to achieve this would be to ensure that global emissions in 2050 are no higher than today’s – around 25 billion tones of CO2 a year. This is a major challenge, because if no action is taken, emissions are expected to double in line with energy use”.
My Questions to BP:
If BP does not truly think, Global Warming is being caused by the CO2 emissions released when the oil products they produce are used, why are they spending money advertising that they are working on the issue?
Are they working on selling only products that are safe when used and do not release greenhouse gas emissions?
BP is looking at a long-term goal which does not increase greenhouse gas emissions above the 2005 level. Maybe I am being too cynical but greenhouse gases and Global Warming have been warned abut for over a century, so how would keeping emissions only at 2005 levels help?
Look closely at their words and their advertisements and you will get a clearer picture of where they actually stand. They are a publicly traded company and their main goal is to make money.
The only way this will ever change if you and I make a conscious decision to make it change. I have already made that decision and have a comprehensive, multi-pronged approach to utilize, and all that is missing is YOU.
We all have to work together and start to aggressively address Global Warming and Energy Independence, NOW.
Are you ready to Lead By Example?
