With food prices dramatically increasing, oil and gasoline prices at all time highs, coupled with the fact that atmospheric CO2 and Methane levels have significantly increased in 2007, the answer to that question has never been clearer.

What is Global Warming?

Global Warming and the greenhouse effect

Global Warming is the term used to describe the problem where the Earths near surface temperature is rising. The Earths near surface temperature has currently, only risen a couple of degrees but the Earths Ecosystem is extremely fragile and any change can cause dramatic negative consequences. Global Warming is caused by greenhouse gas emissions that are in most part, released from the burning of fossil fuels, like oil, gas, coal, etc.; methane released from garbage dumps and some animals; as well as some other Industry specific chemicals being released.

We have all contributed to the problem in some degree. The electricity that many of us use to power our homes and offices, is produced by the burning of coal and gas, and do not forget, most of us use gasoline to power our vehicles. Don’t forget our heating oils and something not spoken too much about, deforestation.

The chemicals, released when burning fossil fuels, methane, and industry specific chemicals released are called greenhouse gases because they accumulate in the atmosphere and act like a shield. They allow the suns heat to come in but do not allow that heat to escape the atmosphere. Think of the Earth like a giant Greenhouse, but when it gets too hot inside the Greenhouse, there are no windows to open up that will let the excessive heat escape.

We all have to work together and start to aggressively address Global Warming and Energy Independence, NOW.
